Company d, of Memphis, Tennessee, is a nationally recognized dance company of young adults with Down syndrome under the artistic direction of Darlene Winters and choreographer. In 2000 "the dancers" came together for a one-night event. Given the dancer's desire and the parent's commitment to continue, the founding and structure of the company was set in motion; no one wanted to stop. In 2009 Company d was assigned non-profit status with the mission to inspire and provide training for individuals with Down syndrome who have an inherent aptitude for the performing arts. Company d is nationally recognized a pre-professional dance company and has been the subject of documentaries and profiled in national dance magazine
